Scott "Scottie" James Cox, Sr., born on January 19, 1969, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, departed from this world on December 26, 2024, leaving behind a tapestry woven with kindness, humor, and spirituality. He was a cherished father, devoted brother, a much loved grandfather and a friend to many, whose gentle spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Scottie dedicated 19 years of his life to Bestway Rental, where he served with unwavering commitment as an assistant manager. His journey continued for nine more years as an operator at Laclede Chain Manufacturing, a testament to his strong work ethic and determination. Educated in the Vicksburg Warren School District, Scottie was a proud member of the class of 1987, where he demonstrated leadership as a captain in the JROTC.
Those who knew Scottie will forever remember his warmth, insight, and unmistakable smile. He embraced life with an open heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. A man of profound spirituality, he held a deep belief in “Father Yahweh,” guiding him through life's challenges and triumphs. In his younger years, he expressed his vibrant personality as a member of the local dance group known as the “T-Dogs,” earning him the beloved nickname “Scott Too Smooth.” His passion for music, notably his cherished stereos, further painted the picture of a man whose zest for life was infectious.
Scottie leaves behind his loving daughters, Shanteria Cox (Marqueese) Richards, of Edwards, Mississippi; Kalisha Cox (Jahan) Amos and Scoletta Cox (Devin) Smothers, both of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and his son, Scott Cox, Jr., also of Vicksburg. He is cherished by seven grandchildren: Marqueese Jr., Martez, Devinity, Jahnae, Maleah, Maison, and Devin Jr. His legacy continues through his two brothers, Melvin Cox and Percy Cox, of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and two sisters, Lisa Cox (Phillip) Shelton, Sr., of Vicksburg, and Velma Cox (Darrell) Rankin, Sr., of Biloxi, Mississippi. Niece LaQuan Cox (Benton) Ross III, who was loved as a sister, and a host of nieces and nephews, will also carry his memory forward.
Scottie is predeceased in death by his parents, Reverend Elbert Cox, Sr., Helen Price Cox and his brother, Elbert Cox, Jr. As the family gathers to celebrate his life, they will remember him not only as a loving father and doting grandfather but as a beacon of humanity whose impact knows no bounds.
