Sarah Hill Taylor, a beloved educator and cherished mother, was called home on May 29, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on January 21, 1947, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, she devoted her life to serving others, particularly through her passion for teaching children.
After graduating from Rosa A Temple High School in 1965, Sarah pursued her dreams in education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary from Alcorn State University in 1969. She continued her academic journey, receiving a Master’s degree from Mississippi College and an Education Specialist Degree from Jackson State University. Sarah’s commitment to her profession was evident in her 34 years of service as a first-grade teacher with the Vicksburg Warren School District, from which she retired in 2004. Her love for teaching did not cease with her retirement; she became the Director at Little Peoples Daycare and dedicated countless volunteer hours to tutoring children to improve their reading skills.
Sarah's legacy is defined by her profound impact on the lives of her students and their families. Her proudest accomplishment was not only in shaping young minds but also in nurturing a love for learning that would last a lifetime.
As a mother, she leaves behind her sons Reginald Taylor and Ryan Taylor, as well as her stepdaughter Linda Smith. Sarah took great joy in her role as grandmother to Devonte Hicks, Adrian Mixon Wardley, and Tylon Williams, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit with them. Her family extends to nieces and nephews: Gwendolyn Mixon Harris, Veronica Brooks Johnson, Angelica Brooks, Kenneth Brooks Jr., Benjamin Brooks Jr., and Nick Green. Sarah also leaves behind special relatives, including her bonus sister Lillie Hill Mixon, Annie Hill Jenkins, along with numerous cherished cousins from the Hill, Mixon, Harris, Taylor, and Jones families.
Preceding her in death are her devoted parents, the late Abe Hill and Anne Harris Hill, who instilled in her the values of education and community service. Sarah was raised by her loving grandparents, the late Dona Hill Sr. and Willie Bell Hill. She is reunited in spirit with her late husband Robert Taylor and her sister Louise Hill Brooks, who will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her loved ones.
Her visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg on June 7, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Mt. Zion #1 M.B. Church on June 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
In her passing, the world has lost a compassionate soul, a guiding light for her family and students, and a true advocate for education. Sarah Hill Taylor will be remembered not just for her achievements but for the warmth and love she shared, leaving a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
