Rodney Emmanuel Dillamar, born on February 6, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, embarked on his final journey on November 11, 2024. He left behind a legacy of love, community spirit, and unwavering generosity that touched the lives of many.
A proud graduate of Taft High School in California, Rodney began his educational pursuit, earning an Associate Degree from USC Trojans and a Baccalaureate Degree from Alcorn State University. His commitment to learning and growth was evident throughout his life and was reflected in the passion he brought to his career.
For many years, Rodney owned and operated the South Street Shoppette, a beloved local hub where he dedicated himself to uniting the community. He was a beacon of support for the youth, sponsoring sports activities that enabled young minds and bodies to flourish. Rodney’s vision extended beyond sports; he organized and hosted Gospel Celebrations on the store’s grounds and was instrumental in launching the first Gospel Awards Celebration in Vicksburg. His commitment to education and communal upliftment was further demonstrated through Back to School Backpack giveaways, ensuring that children had the supplies they needed to succeed.
Rodney leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years, Mrs. Sheila Dillamar, who stood by his side through every endeavor. Together, they shared the joys and challenges of life, nurturing a bond that will endure. Their son, Sherrod Dillamar, carries forth his father’s spirit, embodying the love and values Rodney instilled. Rodney’s legacy also lives on through his devoted mother, Mrs. Mildred Copeland, of Palmdale, California. He is survived by his caring sisters, Wanda Calhoun from Little Rock, Arkansas, and Patricia Dillamar from Palmdale, California, as well as his brother Joe Nathan Dillamar, Jr., currently residing in Germany. Rodney cherished his special friends—Michael Henyard, Michael Jackson, Leon Neal, J.J. Jackson—and held close the hearts of countless nieces and nephews who were all dear to him.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Joe Nathan Dillamar, and stepfather, Mr. George Copeland. He was also greeted by his two sisters, Joann Justice and Sandra Dillamar, along with his brother, Dwayne Dillamar, in eternal rest.
His visitation will be held on November 22, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS. The Celebration of Life will take place on November 24, 2024, at Greater Grove Street M B Church, beginning at 2:00 PM and concluding at 3:30 PM.
