Pauline Lewis

Pauline Gaines Lewis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 4, 2024, just shy of her 84th birthday. Born on February 10, 1940, Pauline embodied a gentle spirit and a kind heart that touched the lives of everyone around her. Her presence will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Pauline's life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and creativity. She possessed a remarkable talent for sewing and quilting which she often shared with her loved ones, creating cherished memories and handmade gifts that hold a special place in the hearts of her family. A passionate gardener, she took pride in cultivating her flowers and vegetables, reflecting her dedication to nurturing both plants and people. Pauline also enjoyed canning, filling her home with the delightful tastes of her hard work, and she always found joy in spending quality time with her family, grounding their lives in support and warmth.

She leaves behind a loving family that includes her son, Robert (Donna) Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughters, Gloria (Eric) Hall of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Merry (Kyle) Smith of Hutto, Texas, Ilean (Nathan) Linzy of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Lou Ellen Coleman of Brandon, Mississippi. Pauline is also survived by her brother, Wardell (Calanthia) Lewis of Kankakee, Illinois, and two sisters, Ellen Jean James of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Berteal (Will) Rogers of Tallulah, Louisiana. Her legacy continues with eighteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including the Truly, Dolley, Carson, Williams, and Gaines families.

Pauline was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie “Bill” Lewis, and her parents, Willie “Will” Gaines and Victoria Boze. She also mourned the loss of her brothers, Arthur Harvey, Luster (Vepor) Gaines, and Charles Gaines, as well as her sisters, Willie Mae Jordan and Genary Harvey, all of Detroit, Michigan.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on February 12, 2024, at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi, starting at 12:00 PM. Pauline's gentle spirit and genuine kindness will forever linger in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be remembered not only for her role as a loving mother and mother-in-law but also for her remarkable ability to inspire others through her quiet strength and compassion. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we hold on to the love and memories she leaves behind, knowing that she will always be with us in spirit.
