Melissa Loretta McCalpin Amos, a beloved soul who touched the lives of many, departed this world on October 30, 2024, at the age of 46. Born on March 22, 1978, Melissa lived a life that was a testament to her unwavering faith, boundless love, and commitment to serving her community and family.
Her spirit shone brightly within the walls of St. Mark Christian Church, where she was a dedicated member under the leadership of her uncle, Bishop Joseph Willis. There, Melissa found her calling, offering her voice to the church choir and tirelessly working with the food committee. Her joyful nature was often expressed through the rhythm of her tambourine, which she would deftly strike from her seat whenever the Holy Spirit moved her heart. It was these moments that showcased her infectious joy and deep connection to her faith.
Melissa's education was a journey of both personal challenge and triumph. She graduated from Warren Central High School in the class of 1996, laying a solid foundation for her future. Most recently, she pursued further studies online at American Intercontinental University, achieving her Bachelor of Healthcare Management Degree on July 2, 2024. Her dedication to learning reflected her belief in growth and a desire to impact health care for the better.
Melissa was not only an extraordinary individual due to her remarkable talents and achievements but also for her profound love for people. She had an incredible gift of giving—whether it was through her beautiful singing, heartfelt prayers, or the sharing of scripture. Melissa's life was imbued with a deep commitment to uplift others and lead them gently to Christ through her example of selflessness and kindness.
She leaves to cherish her memory two adoring children, a son, Chadderick Ross, and a daughter, Aylexia Johnson, both of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Her family further extends to include two grandsons, Adonis Ross and Jaiden Ross, who were a source of immense joy in her life. She is survived by her loving parents, Thomas McCalpin and Della Brown, of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Additionally, Melissa is survived by four brothers: Thomas Jerome McCalpin, Charles McCalpin, Eric Brown, and Deshawn McCalpin; and five sisters: Eliza McCalpin, Chadel Brown, Jennifer Denise Grant, Annie Marie Grant-Calvin, and Erica McCalpin, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
As friends and family gather to honor Melissa's life, they will remember her not only for her immense love and faith but also for the warmth she radiated, which transcended all boundaries. The impact of her passing will be felt far and wide, reflecting the countless relationships she cultivated throughout her life.
Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS, on November 8, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
