Mattie Hall

September 14, 1958 — April 1, 2025

Mattie Hall, a cherished mother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, kindness, and inspiration. Born on September 14, 1958, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, she was a beacon of light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mattie's journey began in Vicksburg Public Schools, where her dedication to her education shone through as she graduated from Temple High. Her academic pursuit continued at Alcorn State University, where she not only excelled academically but also made her mark as a member of the prestigious "Lady Braves" basketball team, demonstrating the same determination and spirit that would define her life.

For 15 years, Mattie served as a Crew Leader at McDonald’s, where her unwavering dedication exemplified her immense work ethic. However, it was her role as a mother that truly defined her world. Mattie poured her heart and soul into her children—three daughters, Denise Hall (Donnie) of Shreveport, LA, Cynthia Hall (Fred W) of Vicksburg, MS, and Stephanie (Eric) Hill of D’Iberville, MS; along with two sons, Dewayne (Kelee) Hall of Terry, MS, and Avery Hall of Houston, TX. Each one carries with them the invaluable lessons of love and resilience that she so graciously imparted.

She was blessed with a beautiful family of nine grandchildren, Fredrick Culbert, Jr., D’Arieus Culbert (Kennedy), Keonte’ (Briyaunah) Lumpkin, Tamera Hall, Dewayne Hall, Jr., Fumilayo Hall, Adewale Hall, Kierra Hill, and Cameron Hill, along with four great-grandchildren, Kharheim Lumpkin, Joel Hall, Tiana Culbert, and Kemahri Culbert. Her pride in her family was evident in every story she shared and every moment cherished.

Mattie's personality was as vibrant as it was welcoming; she never met a stranger and always extended kindness to those around her. Her compassionate spirit lit up the lives of many, ensuring that everyone felt loved and valued. She was affectionately admired for her ability to uplift spirits and create a sense of community wherever she went.

Mattie is survived by her devoted siblings, brother Cleotha Hall and sisters Shirley Hall and Barbara (Odell) Windom, all of Vicksburg, MS, as well as her bonus son, Frederick Culbert, Sr. of Shreveport, LA. Each sibling holds a piece of her infectious spirit and incredible warmth, continuing her legacy of love and closeness.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Avery Belton and Nannie Mae Hall Belton; her beloved sister Linda Sue Fain; and her brothers, Rondell Hall, Charles Hall, Raymond Hall, and Rufus Hall. Their memories will forever dwell in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Friends and family are invited to gather to honor Mattie's remarkable life. Visitation will take place at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg, MS, on April 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service on April 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM, concluding with her celebration of life at the same location.

In these moments of sorrow, let us remember the joy Mattie brought into our lives. Her light will continue to shine through the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who loved her dearly. Though she may have departed from this world, Mattie's spirit will forever resonate within each of us, reminding us to cherish one another and spread kindness, just as she did.
