Mary Helen Washington Carson

Mary Helen Washington Carson, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on April 6, 2024, in her beloved hometown of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Born on April 17, 1947, Mary dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she.

Throughout her remarkable career, Mary Helen served the Vicksburg Warren School District as a devoted school bus driver, ensuring the safety and well-being of countless children. Her warm smile and kind heart were hallmarks of her service. She also spent time working at Carter’s Knitting Co. and CW Knitting Co., where she formed lasting friendships with her colleagues. In the latter part of her career, she found fulfillment in her work at Shell Food Mart, where she touched the lives of patrons for over a decade.

Mary Helen’s legacy extends deeply into the hearts of those she leaves behind. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Andrea Denise Carson of Vicksburg, MS, who carries forward her spirit of love and strength. Her family is further blessed by five grandchildren: Horatio Carson, Tevin Carson, Jhari Brown, Nathan Carson III, and granddaughter Chavariah Cook, all of whom were the light of her life.

She is also remembered fondly by her sister, Ethel White of Vicksburg, MS; her sister-in-law, Mary J. Carson of Vicksburg, MS; and her brother-in-law, Walter Carson, also from Vicksburg, MS. Each of them shared in the laughter, love, and warmth that Mary Helen so generously gave.

Mary Helen is reunited in eternal rest with those who have gone before her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nathan Carson, Sr., and her only son, Nathan Carson, Jr. She also mourned the loss of her parents, George and Fannie Washington, alongside her four sisters, Willie B. Lyons, Georgia Lee Freeman, Emma Lee Gaskin, and Cathrine Adams, as well as her brothers, Eddie Washington and Wilbur Washington. Their memories are forever etched in her heart.

A funeral service to honor Mary Helen's extraordinary life will take place on April 13, 2024, at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg, MS. The service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a gathering to celebrate a woman whose kindness, dedication, and strength will be cherished forever.

Mary Helen Washington Carson’s spirit will live on through her loving family and friends, and her memory will be a source of strength and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
