Mary Elizabeth Selvy Wilson, born on September 21, 1954, was a beloved member of her family and community who passed away on February 3, 2024. She dedicated over thirty years of her professional life to the Waterways Station, retiring in 2015. Mary’s commitment to her work and service to others left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know.
An active member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and the County Inspirational Choir, Mary found joy in music and shared her gift with her community. Her proudest accomplishments were not only in her career but also in the love and support she provided to her family and friends throughout her life.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Wilson, Jr., her loving mother, Katie M. Selvy, and a close-knit family that includes Zaneta Carter (Derrin), Darrell Wilson (Jerrica), Jessica Berry (Ashley), Karen Darlin, Denise Darling Wyldbore, Connie Calvin, and Barbara Jean Appleby. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Jaylon Carter, Alexandria Carter, Kanyia Carter, Zlyah Walker, Angel Lyons, Thomas Lewis, Jr., Rikaiyah Berry, Shakira Wilson, Darrell Anthony Wilson, Darrell Wilson, Jr., Amani Wilson, and Ashanti Wilson, as well as her great-grandson, Ayden Brown.
Mary was a cherished sister to Henry Selvy (Carrie), Minnie Selvy, Laura Selvy, Luther Selvy, Jr., Algina Selvy, Katie Ree Selvy, Mattie Selvy, Monica Selvy, Willia Selvy, and Willie B. Selvy. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Rose Shelby and Betty Allen; her father, Luther Selvy; her brother-in-law, Steve Wilson; and her sisters-in-law, Heavy Cage and Robbie Wilson.
A funeral service to honor Mary’s life will be held on February 10, 2024, at the St. Paul Family Life Center, located on Tiffentown Road in Vicksburg, MS. The service will begin at 2:30 PM, with a gathering of family and friends to celebrate a remarkable woman whose legacy of love, faith, and service will endure in the hearts of many.
