Lamar Gray, Sr., a beloved husband, father, uncle, brother, and, passed away on January 1,2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, dedication. Born on October 23, 1977, Lamar was known for his passion for family and football, spending his life surrounded by the people he cherished.
From a young age, Lamar demonstrated a strong work ethic, completing his education at Warren Central High School. After graduation, he proudly entered the United States Marine Corps, exemplifying his commitment to service and duty, later attending Hinds Community College, where he obtained a certification in engineering.
Lamar's craftsmanship was renowned, as he took great pride in the quality of his work and the support he provided for his family. His family remembers him as a loving and dedicated individual who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Though he enjoyed moments of solitude, his infectious smile and laughter filled the hearts of those around him. He treasured being called "Paw Paw," taking joy in playing and spending time with his grandbabies—Kamden, Lailyn, Loyal, and Lennox.
Lamar is survived by his devoted wife, Denisha, alongside their daughters, Lamaria Gray and Taylor Gray; their sons, Lamar D. Gray, Jr., and Mark D. Gray. He also leaves behind two sisters, Tina Turner and Kalana Gray, as well as five brothers: Anthony Gray, Larry Gray, Sr., Gregory Shelton, Paul Shelton, and Morris Shelton (Andrea). Additionally, he is survived by Rosa Lee Sanders, one aunt, Chaney Lee Peterson, a special niece, Alexia Gray, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including the Gray, Shelton, Peterson, Cosey, Eastman, Nelson, Scott, Huell, Bunch, and Lumpkin families.
Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, Katie Gray and James Scott, and his brother, Darrell Shelton. He will be deeply missed, but the memories of his kindness and joy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on January 7, 2024, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and the indelible mark he made on those around him.
