Florence Johnson

Florence Marie Johnson, a beloved member of the Vicksburg community, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Merit Health River Region, surrounded by her family. Born on September 13, 1949, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Florence was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister whose warm spirit touched all who knew her.

Florence's educational journey began at Rosa A. Temple High School, after which she moved to Los Angeles, California. There, she pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor in Business Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Her professional career included valuable contributions at both the Vicksburg Warren School District and Walmart Super Center, where she built long-lasting relationships with her colleagues and the community.

She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Andrea Johnson, Carla Johnson, Angela Johnson, Tonya Anderson, Sheena May, all of Vicksburg, and her son, Arthur Johnson, of Long Beach, California. Florence was a loving sister to Faye Johnson, and DellaMae Taylor Green (Marion), both of Vicksburg, and a caring sister to her brothers Robert (Evelyn) Lane of Tallahassee, Florida, Leon Lane of El Paso, Texas, and Thomas Johnson of Pearl, Mississippi. She was a proud grandmother to 22 grandchildren and a devoted great-grandmother to 26 great-grandchildren. Florence also cherished her nieces and nephews, including those from the Buchanan, Lane, and Edmond families, who will carry her legacy forward. Additionally, she had a close friend, Mrs. Lucille Jackson, who held a special place in her heart, and she was deeply regarded by her VWSD and Walmart family.

Florence was preceded in death by her mother, Luvenia Ellis; father, Mose Johnson; sister, Alice Edmond; grandmother, Florence Foster; granddaughter, Naomi Johnson; grandsons, Brandin Lane and Delzione Johnson; and her aunt, Bernice Buchanan. Each of these loved ones leaves a void in the lives of those who remain, but their memories will live on through Florence's family.

Services to honor Florence's life will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Visitation will take place on May 24, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The funeral service is scheduled for May 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM, to be held at Travelers Rest Baptist Church, also in Vicksburg.

Florence Marie Johnson will be remembered not only for her accomplishments and the love she shared but also for the indelible mark she leaves on the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and dedication to family will continue to inspire those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
