Edward Segrest Jr., born on January 5, 1949, in Jefferson County, Mississippi, transitioned from this life on April 12, 2025. His journey through life was marked not only by the achievements of a devoted husband, father, and business owner but also by the indelible impact he made on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
A proud graduate of Rose A Temple High School in 1967, Edward further pursued his academic interests at Alcorn State University. In 1974, he began his career at the Vicksburg Chemical Plant, where he dedicated over two decades of service. However, it was in 1986 that Edward truly found his calling as an entrepreneur, establishing Segrest Moving & Storage Company. This venture complemented his passion for agriculture as he maintained a thriving cattle farm in Vicksburg, a testament to his hard work and commitment to his community.
Edward was more than a businessman; he was a pillar of warmth, kindness, and understanding. He possessed an infectious laugh that would light up a room and a natural ability to empathize with others. A steadfast friend in both jubilant celebrations and times of bereavement, he was known for his comforting presence, his words of encouragement, and unwavering support. His legacy as a father is reflected not only in his children's accomplishments but in the love they carry for him, instilled with values of integrity, resilience, and compassion.
Among his proudest accomplishments, Edward cherished the honor of being selected as a delegate for the Republican Convention in New Orleans in the late 1980s. This significant moment was followed by a memorable invitation to the White House, where he and his beloved wife, Margaret, had the extraordinary experience of meeting President George H.W. Bush.
Edward leaves a loving family to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Margaret G. Segrest; daughters, Pamela Segrest and Juanita Segrest-Pruitt (Derrick); sons, Edward Segrest III and Charles Gaskin; and grandchildren, Tre’Vion Thomas, Kayleigh Pruitt, and La’Shanette Gaskin. He is also survived by his brother, Dennis Segrest (Debbie) of Utica, MS, along with sisters Carrie Jackson (Ray) of Los Angeles, CA, and Gwendloyn Brooks (George) of Port Gibson, MS, as well as a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.
Edward is preceded in death by his father, Edward Segrest Sr.; his mother, Juanita Segrest; his sisters, Rose Jackson, Ida Kate Brown and Debra Foster; and his brother, Charles Ray Segrest.
As we gather to celebrate the remarkable life of Edward Segrest Jr., we will remember him not only for his accomplishments but for the love and guidance he imparted to all. Visitation will be held on April 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180.
