On October 11, 1991, at University Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, Yolunda Baggett and David Taylor, Sr., were overjoyed to welcome their only son, David Jr. This delightful and well-loved child ended his sojourn on Earth peacefully in his sleep at home in Canton, Mississippi, on June 5, 2023. David was introduced to the Lord as a seven-year-old when his mother enrolled him in a weekly children’s Bible study club facilitated by their cousin. He attended Walton Elementary School, where his favorite subject was reading. At Chastain Middle School, David was a member of the chess club, and he graduated from Murray High School. He spent three semesters at Hinds Community College, majoring in automotive mechanics.
David was friendly, personable, and hard-working, last employed at Continental Tires. Helpful, kind, and generous to all who knew him. He was a loving father and a devoted companion. David loved video games, was a fierce Lebron (Lakers) fan, and he loved to drive and travel.
David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sarah Baggett and Robert Lee Parkman, and his paternal grandmother, Katie Fisher.
He is survived by his paternal grandfather, Sharkey Fisher of Utica, MS; parents, Yolunda “Lanie” Baggett and David Taylor, Sr., of Jackson, MS; sisters, Kelonda Terry of Kenner, Louisiana, and Hyka Watkins of Nashville, Tennessee; loving and devoted companion, Cedrikia Johnson, and their children, Michael Price, Deniyah Johnson, and Ah’Vari Taylor, all of Canton, Mississippi; and a host of relatives and friends who will miss his smile, his towering presence, and his joy for life.
A Celebration of Life will be held for David Taylor, Jr on June 24, 2023, 11:00 AM at Greater Grove Street M. B. Church, 2715 Alcorn Dr., Vicksburg, MS .
Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Services, 4310 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS on June 23, 2023 from 1:00 - 6:00 PM with family present from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.
