Brenda Joyce Garrett McNeil, born on September 27, 1950, departed this life on January 10, 2024. She was known for her warmth, dedication, and creativity. Brenda's early education began at Rosa A. Temple High School, from which she graduated in the Class of1968. She continued her studies at Hinds Community College (Utica Campus), but her path took a turn as she devoted herself to caring for her mother.
Brenda's professional life was marked by her roles at Gibson’s, WES, and as a teacher’s assistant, where her commitment to helping others shone brightly. She further utilized her skills at Rainbow Casino in Environmental Services (EVS), showcasing her versatility and reliability in every position she held.
A devoted and unique individual, Brenda's personality left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She maintained her faith steadfastly until the end, and her thoughtful, joyful memories will be cherished by her family and friends.
Brenda was a creative soul with passions that included crocheting, planting, and drawing. Her artistic talents and hobbies highlighted her vibrant character and brought joy to those around her.
She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her legacy forward. Her memories will be cherished by her daughter, LaShonda D. Jackson; her brother, Bishop John H. Williams, Sr., of Vicksburg, MS; and her grandchildren, Keyaira K. Chiplin of Houston, TX, and Kendric Chiplin of Vicksburg, MS. She is also survived by her niece, Shimika Williams of Texas; three nephews, Major John (Tanoa) Williams, Jr., of South Dakota, Master Sgt. Darious (CheLeta) Williams, Sr., of Texas, and Hezekiah (Makaela) Williams; eleven great nieces and nephews; and a host of special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including those from the Harris, Sanders, Preacely, Jackson, Chiplin, Donerson, Burns, and McNeil families.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, the late Prince Garrett and Bertha Mae Harris, as well as her maternal grandparents, the late Jake and Maud Harris, and paternal grandparents. She also mourned the loss of a special aunt, Josephine H. Sanders, alongside a host of aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Brenda's honor on January 20, 2024, at Greater Grove Street M.B. Church, located at 2715 Alcorn Dr., Vicksburg, MS 39183. The service will commence at 11:00 AM and conclude at 12:00 PM.
