Alton Andrake Burden, Sr., born on August 24, 1970, peacefully departed this life on December 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, protection, and cherished memories. Residing in Vicksburg, Mississippi, his absence is profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Alton was a devoted family man, celebrated for his unwavering commitment to those he loved. He was a loving husband to Jacqueline Burden and a proud father to his daughters—Kentora Burden, Inesha Trisby, Ti’kayla Lockett, Altiana Clark, Erkah James, Ontinaya Reed, Anniesty Clark, and Aaliyah Strong—and his sons Alton Burden, Jr., De’vonte Trisby, Deaundre Trisby, and Jamarcus Trisby. Alton’s role as a father extended beyond the traditional; he embraced the role of a big brother to many and made everyone feel included, often reminding them of the strength that lies within family ties.
Alton was blessed with a remarkable number of grandchildren, who were the joys of his life: McKenzie Burden, A’laysia Burden, Mason Burden, A’lyric Burden, Mi’kaya Williams, Mi’kari Williams, A’layna Burden, Ta’kylen Clark, Carmen James, Dayon Miller, Jayah Trisby, A’riyah Burden, Ontaryo Reed Wallace, Aries Wallace, Karmen Clark, and Abigail Brown. His dedication to nurturing relationships with them exemplified his affectionate nature.
He is survived by his sisters—Allison (Kedron) Guinn, Chantilly (Jamal) Washington, Ashley Burden, Michelle Smith, Latridia Nicholson, Tymeka Nicholson, Amanda Nicholson, Bre-Niosha Nicholson, Elizabeth Nicholson, and Krystal Nicholson—and brothers Channing (Latasha) Burden, Tommy (Sharon) Ames, Sylvester Smith, Jr., Michael Smith, Allen Nicholson, Jr., Cornelius Nicholson, and Terrell Nicholson. Alton’s strong bonds with his family extended to his aunts, Doreen Wallace, Tamara Wallace, and Sarah Patel; uncle, James Wallace; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, notably from the Burden, Byrd, Wallace, Rollins, Smith, Hearron, and Lane families.
Alton’s journey was not without sorrow, as he was preceded in death by his mother, a son Aulden Clark, sister Shanell Burden Stowers, grandson Ta’kyriee Clark, and his maternal grandparents, Geneva McGowan and Charlie McGowan. He also mourned the loss of aunts, Darlene Wallace, Ola B. Valentine, Annie Bell Burden, and Easter English, along with his cousin, Anthony Burden.
A visitation to honor and remember Alton will take place on December 21, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180. Following this, a Celebration of Life service will be held on December 22, 2024, at 2:30 PM at the same venue.
In his life, Alton Andrake Burden, Sr. exemplified what it meant to love unconditionally and protect fiercely. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, and he will be missed dearly by all who encountered his warmth and kindness.
