Alonzo Austin

Alonzo Austin, a gentle spirit and cherished soul, left this world on March 9, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on November 10, 1943, Alonzo's life was characterized by his unwavering kindness, love for his family, and a passion for cooking that drew friends and family together around the table. He retired from the Warren County Highway Department as a Diesel Mechanic, a testament to his dedication and expertise in his craft.

Throughout his life, Alonzo immersed himself in the joys of the outdoors, savoring the moments spent hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. These interests converged with his compassionate nature in the kitchen, where he delighted his loved ones with culinary creations that were as warm and inviting as his spirit. His legacy of compassion and generosity will forever remain etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.

Alonzo is survived by a loving family who carry on his memory: his three daughters, Janice (Ken) Rivera of Batavia, IL, Penny Austin, and Cedra Austin, both of Aurora, IL; one step-daughter, Regina Blackmore (Greg), of Vicksburg, MS; three sons, Alonzo Blackmore (Tonya) of Vicksburg, MS, Tony Austin, and Alan Austin, both of Aurora, IL; and one step-son, Demetrice Blackmore of Vicksburg, MS. His vibrant familial tapestry also includes eight brothers, Jessie (Shelia), George, Carl, Andrew, and Mose Benard, all of Vicksburg, MS, Aaron (Brenda) Benard of Aurora, IL, Roosevelt Benard, and Joseph (Belita) Benard, both of Texas; three sisters, Leaverne Brent and Rebecca (Tommy) Tribble, both of Vicksburg, MS, and Eliza (Martin) Bentivengo of North Aurora, IL; two aunts, Katherine Austin and Bertha Benard, both of Vicksburg, MS; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special friend, Debra Johnson.

He was preceded in death by five beloved sisters: Bessie Mae Whitaker, Nancy Austin, Lilly Bell Wardley, Georgia Ann Hall, and Lenora Pendleton; and two brothers, Kalvin Benard and Redale Benard. Their spirits now join his, creating a loving circle that will forever watch over his dear family.
