Alean Carter Gaskew

Alean Carter Gaskew, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, departed this life on October 21, 2023, just two days after celebrating her 72nd birthday. Cherished by all who knew her, Alean behind a legacy of love and dedication will resonate in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

Born on October 19, 1951, Alean was a proud graduate of Hinds Agricultural High School in Utica, Mississippi, where she graduated with the Class of 1970. She continued her education at Hinds Community College before transferring to Alcorn State University, where she proudly earned her degree with double majors in history and social work in 1974. Her thirst for knowledge and commitment to education reflected her deep desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Mrs. Gaskew devoted 23 years of her life to Raymond High School, where she was not only an educator but also a source of inspiration and guidance for her students. Even after retiring, Alean continued to share her passion for nurturing young minds at Precious Moments Learning Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Her impact on her students extended beyond the classroom, as she was actively involved in the church choir, where her beautiful voice filled hearts with joy and faith.

Alean’s loving spirit will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Walter Gaskew, and two daughters, Jennifer Lewis (Minister Willie Lewis) and Jasmine Carter. Her heart was especially full when she thought of her son, Kelvin Green, Sr., along with her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. Alean held a special bond with her three "daughters of the heart," Pertrenniai Carson, LaTasha Burks-Jackson, and Tiandra Burks, who knew her as a guiding light in their lives. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Classie Barnes, and her brothers, M.C. Green, Phillip Green, Jr., and Earnest Green, alongside a host of nephews, nieces, friends, and other relatives whose lives she touched throughout her journey.

Alean was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mr. Phillip Green, Sr., and Mrs. Allean T. Green; three brothers, Johnny D. McDuffie, Joe Green, and Andrew Green; two sisters, Annie Stokes and Jessieline Barnes; and a grandchild, Acie Applewhite. Their memories live on through the stories shared and the love they imparted.

A celebration of Alean’s life will take place at Belmont M.B. Church located at 4446 Charlie Brown Road in Utica, Mississippi, on October 28, 2023. The service will commence at 11:00 AM, providing friends and family an opportunity to honor her remarkable life. As we gather to reflect on her legacy and cherish the memories of her earthly journey, we are reminded of the many ways she enriched our lives and inspired those around her.

Alean Carter Gaskew’s spirit will forever shine brightly in the hearts of her loved ones, and her unwavering kindness and love will be a guiding star for all who knew her. She will be missed, but her love will always be an integral part of our stories.
